Is there a difference between a hero and a role model? A hero is someone who inspires you. A role model is someone you may want to be. Chapter 10:23-33 talks about Paul’s response to the Corinthians who felt they had the right to do anything they pleased. Paul told them their actions should be limited. Not everything is beneficial. He said, “In your right to do anything, not everything is constructive.”
In all we do, we should strive at the glory of God. Paul called the Corinthians to model his lifestyle as he followed Jesus’ style of living. We have to glorify God as role model fathers. Do we build up or tear down family, neighbors, or members of the body of Christ? Do we care about our intent or effects of our actions to others?
A role model of Jesus understands the big question. Are we in right relationship with Him? We cannot be a role model if we don’t know or love Jesus. Nor can we declare, “follow my example as I follow Christ’s example.
When we do not have right relationships, we hold on to pain. We are enslaved; in bondage. But we have to check ourselves and make changes according to His Word.
