The psalmist, David, cried out to the Lord God because he realized that he deserved to be rebuked by God. He also realized the rebuke must come in whatever form God chose. But He pled that it not be in God’s anger, but in His loving kindness.
David asked God how long he would be left to suffer? How long would the agony and pain continue? We’ve come to understand that God will humble our hearts. He'll break a contrite spirit by way of great afflictions. God will also send afflictions to awaken our conscience. God will mortify corruption. He’ll bring sin to our remembrance. When we have comfort in our souls, the afflictions in our bodies will be tolerable.
Maybe something else is going on causing us to stay up at night. God gave us assignments, and many of us are spiritual dropouts because we have not completed them. It may even be for our loved ones to complete an assignment before they depart from this earth. There may be danger up ahead, but we keep going back because of the sensationalism in the past. We may even cry for God to remove present trouble. Some of us try to drink it off, drug it off, cheat or steal it off. We may cry out, “My bones ache!” Your torment may be deep in general, yet inward. It may seem to be out of reach. But you should never be without spiritual strength. Stop allowing your emotions to get the best of you. Seek God's message and will for your circumstance. Seek God and not man.
