This scripture is about three characters: Abraham, his nephew Lot, and Lot’s wife. It’s also about their homeland of Sodom and its twin city, Gomorrah. The Lord confirmed the sinful nature of the twin cities; so, He destroyed them by fire. But in her departure, Lot’s wife looked back at the burning cities. As a result, she turned into a pillar of salt. Lot also lingered because a great deal of his heart was in his home city of Sodom. He didn’t want to leave either.
When there is a lack of urgency to obey God, it may lead to a compromising situation. When Lot’s wife was instructed to leave without looking back, she disobeyed. Like her husband, she was grieved to leave her home; her things. Something about us living in the past, God wants us to consider three warnings. Take a look at:
1) Your Environment
2) The group(s) in which you participate
3) Your choice to accept or reject God’s loving kindness.
Jesus told His disciples to remember Lots wife. Her looking back was an indication as to where her real treasures lay. Be careful about looking back.
Don’t linger or look back at the stuff you enjoyed. Stuff requires maintenance and accountability. Resist it and follow Him.
