Grip, in this case, is an intellectual hold or understanding of something. Paul’s word encourages that if we are blessed to be elders in the church, we must have a firm grip of encouragement for others. Titus was a lover of good things and good people. And we are to be the same. Therefore, elders cannot be lovers of evil. They must be qualified to lead Christians. They must be disciplined and able to stay focused.
