When we’ve been born again, followers of the lamb, in right relationship with God–like Paul–we can declare we have a God-given spirit. It makes us loving because we are loved by Him. We are self-controlled, brave, and resolute. It makes us calm at times with a new attitude. It makes us fearless, not cowardly. It makes us hopeful and reminds us that all things work together for the good. Realizing that God will never, ever leave us alone, we can be sober of mind. We can use discretion and even turn the other cheek.

The greatest gift that God gave to mankind is intellect. As for me, I know He also gave me salvation and forgiveness. I didn’t earn it, or work for it, but I’m trying to get into heaven. God gave me a spirit and saved my life. He forgave me for all my sins. He gave me the intellect to say, “Lord have mercy.”
