Malachi, meaning messenger of Jehovah, gives us a reminder that God can use His judgement in order to destroy. In the days of Malachi, the people turned away from God and became entangled in improper sacrifices and behavior. Israel’s survival was only because God had been merciful and kind to them. God did not say we have survived because we deserve mercy. Israel―and we―owe our survival to the faithfulness of God.

It is God’s unchanging promises that we do not suffer much. No matter what the circumstances, be they addictions, afflictions, calamities, or peril; whether or not we give our tithes and offerings to the Lord, He is immutable. Hold firm, stay fixed. Be permanent, stable and unchanging. Like the Father, be immutable.
