Itching Ears & Sound Doctrine, Msg. 1
The gospel, containing the words of Jesus, is sound. It is not corrupt. It addresses the souls of men and women. There are men, however, who do not wish to hear it. They refuse to receive it and they turn their backs on it. They turn their backs on you and ridicule you, yet the gospel is true. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will surround themselves with those who will say what their itching ears want to hear. Itching ears might be likened to those that don’t want the true word of God. They tickle their fancy by leaning toward myths.
How can I turn my back on God who has made true sacrifices for me? How can I be a taker and not a giver? Some will turn your ears from the Christian truth for a fable. To God, this was considered a reprobate mind, void of sense and judgement. When you have an itching ear sensation, you want it scratched. But according to Paul, if you’re not careful, you’ll become restless following your own lusts and wishes. When you’ve got good teaching—God’s preaching and teaching—His word rooted and grounded, you will not be moved by itching ears. Are your ears itching? Or do they hear what sayeth the Lord?
