In this section, Solomon addresses more than one person. Like his audience, we are also students of the Word, studying the Word. Solomon advises us to guard our heart. Keep it. There is a close connection as to what’s in our hearts and what comes out of our mouths. Put away bitter words, malice, and obscene talk. Most times, our rationale to use it does not align with the Word of God. But a wise person refuses to get distracted by gutter talk. We must stick to the task to avoid temptation from evil people. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. One who seeks to be right must be right. Watch your heart.
